I find it puzzling how some folks out there won’t believe in spirits unless they can get physical evidence to their satisfaction. People get excited by pictures of orbs, things that look like spirit people, EVP, and all kinds of other things, including UFO’s and aliens. And there are those who are very interested in experiencing the physical things that may indicate spirit presence or influence – ghost hunters and the like. We can label these all things, for lack of a better term, phenomena.
I certainly believe that spirits are capable of producing valid physical phenomena, and I’ve experienced a thing or two to back it up, at least to my own satisfaction. I don’t have much issue with it, but I do think that most phenomena is of little value.
Does an orb really convey the presence of spirit(s) in a photograph? Or a hazy picture that looks like a person? What about the “good” pictures of spirit people? Even if it were incontrovertibly true, beyond all shadows of a doubt, you’re still only left with a photograph, or whatever other physical evidence you have. So what.
Imagine your favorite famous person that you’ve never meet, nor seen. Perhaps someone from history. What would you rather have, a picture of them, or have them over to your house for dinner and conversation? Does it matter that someone can tell you that the picture is, beyond all shadows of a doubt, a picture of that person? Is a picture ever going to be a good enough substitute for the visit?? Of course not!
In a similar way, the question of whether the phenomena is legitimate just doesn’t matter much. The dinner and conversation are far better and more important.
When someone taps you on the shoulder to get your attention to talk, do you run away, all excited and yakking that you were tapped? Do you run around, showing your shoulder and then pointing out the exact spot where you were tapped to everyone who’ll look?
In your excitement, do you forget all about who it was, or why they wanted to talk to you in the first place? If so, you probably look like an idiot to all the people you’ve been running around to. More importantly, you’ve been rude to the person who was trying to talk to you. You missed the whole point, and now you probably look like an idiot to them too.
Spirits sometimes use phenomena to get our attention. It’s like a tap on the shoulder. The conversation is what it’s really all about. While there’s nothing wrong with it, the tap on the shoulder is of comparatively little value.
You might wonder, do mediums go for readings? Why would they, especially when they talk to the spirits all the time?
Generally speaking, it’s rare for us to go for reading, but we do. Remember that mediums are seekers too. We can benefit from the services of another medium, even though we already talk to the spirits more often than most people. Sometimes “hearing it from someone else” is good.
People think mediums (or psychics) know everything, or should know everything. When people sneer at us for not knowing everything, including the winning lotto numbers, it makes me laugh a little inside. While they’re in the middle of sneering and looking down at us, what they’re actually doing is proving is that we’re human beings, (prettymuch) like everyone else.
Don’t they think that if mediums could consistently turn up the winning lotto numbers, that every one of us would be rich? Sure we would, so why do they look at us like we’re foolish? It’s not a failing of ours, it’s an unrealistic expectation of theirs, a failing of theirs to think we can do such things! Usually, the most we say is that “it doesn’t work that way”, which is true, but doesn’t improve their understanding much at all.
Ok, time to climb down off the soap box. Anyhow, truth be told, we don’t want to do lotto numbers. If we could, all kinds of bad things might happen. We would be hunted down and held at gunpoint to provide numbers. If we made a mistake, we’d be killed. There would be State, Federal, and police investigations to determine if we somehow got insider information and/or “fixed” the proceedings. And if we did it consistently, there would be no more lottos, as people would scream that it’s cheating. I think they’d scream louder than they are about Mr. Madoff’s $68 billion Ponzi scheme, as this type of swindling, as unethical and illegal as it is, is more commonplace.
Good thing that “it doesn’t work that way”, but if it ever did, I would hope that we would spend our mega-millions on making the world better, in some positive and spiritual way. Too bad we don’t have the Madoff billions to do exactly that.
There’s a movie coming out about the Ouija board with “horror genre elements that seem reminiscent of supernatural thrillers like “The Ring” and “The Gift.””
Do we need yet another Hollywood-ed, jazzed-up, negative/spooky movie about spiritual things? Couldn’t it be positive, uplifting, and healing instead??
The Ouija board is a tool, albeit a very misunderstood tool. It’s a tool in the same way that a gun is. You would never hand a loaded gun to a six year old and say “go play”. That’s crazy because they have no training or experience or sense of responsibility, and they’ll go off and hurt themselves. It’s for adults who understand and know how to handle it.
Spiritually speaking, when it comes to the Ouija board, there are plenty of six year olds, and sadly, some of them shoot themselves in the foot, and cry very loudly to Mommie. It scares the other six year olds away (which is good), but it also scares the adults away, those who could understand and handle it.
It’s about people, not the tools. A person’s spiritual training, experience, and sense of spiritual responsibility determine whether they’re six year olds or adults with the Ouija board, and physical age has nothing to do with it. It’s just not for those without spiritual experience/background/knowledge/etc.
Over the years, I’ve had mostly good experiences with the Ouija board, and only a few bad ones. Now that’s not an open license to recommend it to everyone, just my experience.
My view is that Ouija board has been abandoned by its potential friends (mediums) and beaten down by its enemies (mediums and others) a long time ago. Since then, it’s been lying quietly in a heap on the floor, doing nothing, and now this movie is going to walk up, kick it right in the nuts, and then go away.
I hope I’m wrong, but don’t bet on it.
